Minolta Dynax 2xi
Minolta · Japan · 1992 · 135 film
The Dynax 2xi was a mid-range 35mm autofocus SLR camera released by Minolta in 1992 as part of their popular Dynax (Maxxix in some markets) series. Building on Minolta's earlier autofocus systems introduced with the 7000 in 1985, the 2xi featured a more compact and lightweight design compared to some of the higher-end models in the lineup. It incorporated Minolta's proprietary autofocus technology along with advanced exposure modes including program, aperture-priority, shutter-priority, and full manual modes. The camera supported Minolta's extensive line of A-mount lenses and included features like built-in motor drive for continuous shooting and a built-in pop-up flash.
As part of Minolta's effort to compete in the increasingly competitive autofocus SLR market of the early 1990s, the 2xi positioned itself as an accessible yet capable option for advanced amateur photographers. It offered a good balance of features and size, making it suitable for everyday photography while still providing the flexibility of interchangeable lenses. The camera represented Minolta's commitment to refining their autofocus technology and maintaining relevance during a period when Canon and Nikon were dominating the professional market. While not groundbreaking, the 2xi was a solid representative of mid-1990s camera technology that served many photographers well during its production run.
